Interested in working with me?

Current Columbia PhD students

Email me with a description of how your research interests/experience align with mine, and let’s find a time to talk!

Current Columbia MS/BS students

I currently do not have any open positions for Masters or undergraduate students, including over the summer. I will update this page when that changes.

Prospective Columbia PhD students

I am able to advise PhD student in both IEOR and CS departments. In either department, make sure to select my name as a potential advisor of interest and to include a discussion of how our research interests overlap in your statement. If you are applying through the CS department, also make sure to select “Theory” as an area of interest. All admissions are done by committee, so I cannot comment on your chances of admission, pre-review your application, or make any promises of admission.

Prospective Postdocs

Please apply through the Columbia Data Science Institute postdoc program and list me as a potential advisor. Also make sure to include a discussion of how our research interests overlap in your statement. If I have funding for privacy-specific postdoc calls, I will update this page.

Prospective Columbia MS students

All Columbia MS admissions are done by committee. I cannot comment on your chances of admission, pre-review your application, or make any promises of admission.

Students from other institutions – with a prior connection

If I have a prior connection to you or your advisor (e.g., through the field of differential privacy), please DO email me! Make sure to include in your email what the connection is, and the overlap in our research areas.

Students from other institutions – with no prior connection

I’m unlikely to work with new students who I don’t already know, either through my institution or my research field. I receive many emails and I may be unable to respond directly to every inquiry.
